La relève II is a structural investigation into cinematic light, shadow, and the phenomenology of projection. The installation features a single 10-meter film loop traveling through two synchronized 16mm projectors arranged in a linear row. This configuration creates a physical mise-en-abyme: the rear projector casts the shadow of the front projector onto its own projected image, effectively turning the apparatus into its own content. The film strip alternates between transparent frames, black leader, and B&W footage of smoke in motion. These elements interact with the cast shadows of the projectors to create a shifting, rhythmic synthesis of mechanical presence and fleeting imagery. The point of departure is an exploration of the nature of the film apparatus as a dialectical formation: light/darkness, negative/positive, and the tension between the mechanics of the loop and the choreography of light in space.
